Rackline are pleased to announce that they have been awarded a prestigious project to supply mobile racking to the Whitworth Art Gallery, part of the University of Manchester (“UoM”).
The Whitworth Art Gallery is embarking on a £15M extension & refurbishment project which is due to complete in 2014.
Current gallery collections are stored in various dislocated locations within the gallery and other buildings. The gallery were looking for a solution to bring all the collections into one central location where access would be fast and easy.
Rackline’s successful solution was to design a high density storage system to relocate the collections into the newly built Collections Zone which will consist of 3 large rooms and a Study Centre. As well as accommodating the existing collections, Rackline’s design also created space to allow for future collections expansion a critical requirement of the collections team.
In brief the Rackline design incorporates pull-out picture storage, mobile and static shelving as well as bespoke storage designs for the significant rolled textiles and wallpaper collection.
The installation of the Rackline system is due to commence during July-August 2013 with much of the hard work still to do as the Rackline design teams work with the collections team to finesse the system to address the exact requirements of the gallery collection.
