At Rackline we understand the importance of adapting our products and methods in order to meet individual customers’ needs. We have been providing storage solutions to companies from various industries across the UK for over 35 years, and a few years ago we were approached to see if we could provide high security cabinets for UK prisons. We rose to the challenge and subsequently became an approved supplier and installer for prisons and other high security areas. When requested, classification can be confirmed by the Government Security Division.
Rigorous Testing
Understandably, the MoD and the government have to be extremely careful about who they can appoint to work on projects in high security environments. Suppliers are required to go through rigorous testing in order to ensure that not only are the products themselves fit for purpose, but that the team installing the products are also working to the relevant high standards. The Rackline team have worked hard to ensure that they go above and beyond the requirements set out by the security services, and we have since designed, supplied and installed a number of high security storage solutions in prisons across the UK.
HMP Berwyn
One of our recent installations took place at HMP Berwyn, a huge £212 million prison which is due to take its first prisoners in February 2017. The brand new build provided the designers with the ideal opportunity to make sure the prison would be not only totally secure, but also efficiently laid out to make the best use of the available space. Our team worked closely with the clients in order to discuss the best methods of securely storing highly confidential prison records, not to mention the personal belongings of prisoners during their sentences.
Security Procedures
Once the most suitable secure storage products have been chosen for a particular project, the team can get to work on installing the systems. This isn’t as straightforward as a ‘normal’ product installation due to the inevitable rigorous high security procedures followed in prisons, so our team of installers must go through a series of checks before they get to work. The tools being used for the job must be thoroughly checked by prison staff and from the moment they enter the prison premises, they have to be accompanied by a guard at all times. This to not only protect the inmates, but to ensure the safety of our team, too.
